Economist by Institute Superior of Economics and Management of Lisbon University, Post Graduate Course in Marketing Research by INDEG/ISCTE of Lisbon, MBA by Lisbon MBA, and MSc in Business and Administration by the University Catholic Portuguese, he got a PhD in Management in 2006. Mário is professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD) and researcher at the Centre for Transdisciplinary Development Studies (CETRAD).

His main research interests are connected with marketing, strategic management, and tourism and has been published in a variety of outlets, including: Journal of Intellectual Capital, International Marketing Review, Expert Systems, Journal of Strategy and Management, International Journal of Productivity and Performance Management, RISTI, and PASOS.
